SPORT TAG Heuer brings another remarkable year to a close: The 2021 Year End Report

6 min

As the New Year approaches, we’re looking back at the most memorable moments and achievements of the last 12 months.

On the heels of our landmark 160th anniversary, which we celebrated to great fanfare throughout 2020, our year-end updates from 2021 are no less remarkable. TAG Heuer continued to tick its revolutions around the sun, innovating in every arena, from new high-octane ambassadorships and partnerships, to highly-anticipated and limited edition new releases.

2021 has pushed our collaborations and our watchmaking far past where we’ve dared to go before. Simply looking back on the year gives us a shiver of excitement and we’re assembling a list of our favourite achievements and accomplishments from the past year so you can share in the thrills.

Here’s to the New Year, the perfect moment in time to reflect on our past while anticipating our future, something we do quite well at TAG Heuer.

A growing family

Congratulations are in order as our family has grown quite a bit in the last year. Among our latest and greatest ambassadors, we now count tennis star Naomi Osaka, golf prodigy Tommy Fleetwood, basketball player Jimmy Butler, Olympic runner Sydney McLaughlin, and lauded actor Ryan Gosling as part of our team. Each one of these individuals is at the cutting edge of their craft, exemplifying bold fearlessness at every level, and we’re honoured to have them onboard.

Timely happenings

After decades of mutual admiration, we embarked on a new journey with Porsche, finally releasing our first collaboration: The TAG Heuer x Porsche Carrera limited edition timepiece. It’s no secret that we’re linked by a love for automobile racing; after all, both TAG Heuer and Porsche have iconic models named after the same race: the Carrera Panamericana of the 1950s. The watch reflects a common history and shared values, and it marks the first of many releases to come.

While on the topic of the Carrera, we’d be remiss in not mentioning the release of a new generation of the timeless, sporty and elegant  TAG Heuer Carrera Three Hands. The reissue was feted along with the Ryan Gosling announcement at a stylish party in LA, where both pieces of news were received with much excitement. Further excitement was had at the biannual Only Watch auction in Geneva, where the luxury watchmaking community comes together for a good cause: support for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy research. Our TAG Heuer entry for the auction, the TAG Heuer Only Watch Carbon Monaco, was a groundbreaking specimen of watchmaking expertise forged in black carbon fibre. Paying tribute to our dark-coated Monaco from the 70s (more on that watch here) while bringing it into the 21st century, the watch brought in CHF 290’000.00, a very impressive sum, at the auction. It was an honour, as always, to participate in such a good cause.

New releases and limited editions

Of course, it wouldn’t be another year in the life of TAG Heuer without the release of several very special watches. 2021 saw an unparalleled push for exciting new editions and collaborations. From the re-release of the Carrera Three Hands to a new Aquaracer collection, we’ve continued to reflect on and perpetuate our legacy of precision, always striving for more.

The new generation TAG Heuer Carrera Three Hands Collection

Designed for the globetrotters of today, the new generation TAG Heuer Carrera Three Hands collection revisits the original design legacy of the Carrera, with a 21st-century twist. Celebrating TAG Heuer’s rich watchmaking heritage and the sporty, elegant three-hand, dual timezone original, this contemporary collection features 13 new models.

The new Aquaracer Collection

This year, we went into the deep with a new Aquaracer collection that harks back to our iconic dive watches of the 1980s. The collection includes a limited edition tribute to the reference 844 and also the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300 Night Diver. While the watches echo the past models, they include decidedly modern features, like a rubber strap, and a new buckle system for the 2021 Aquaracer Night Diver bracelet that makes it simple to fit over a diving suit..

The TAG Heuer Connected x Super Mario Limited Edition

This year, TAG Heuer and Ninendo joined forces to create a connected watch to captivate gamers, watch enthusiasts and anyone looking for a bit of fun while hitting their daily targets. The TAG Heuer Connected x Super Mario Limited Edition features details from the iconic game, like a Super Mushroom, Pipe, Super Star on the bezel at 3, 6 and 9 as well as signature Mario “M” branding. There are four different dial designs available…each one designed to inspire movement all day long.

Max Verstappen and a very special edition Monaco Titan

As proud partners of Red Bull Racing in this year’s Formula 1 circuit, we’ve watched with bated breath as Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez navigated each course around the world. We’re thrilled that Max’s lucky (and trusted) charm on the racetrack, in particular the one at Monaco, was a special customised version of the Monaco Titan, with the number 33, his lucky racing number.

As the year comes to a close and we look back on all of this in wonder, we’d like to extend our thanks to our frightfully talented and dedicated teams for making this all possible. Every minute that ticks by on our TAG Heuer timepieces is thanks to them.

From all of us here at TAG Heuer, a very Happy New Year!
