LIFESTYLE Time out: our new Chronosprint viewed by Gennaro Lewis Grassi

In our Time Out series, The Edge asks breakout artists to showcase a TAG Heuer watch through their lens, focused on a theme related to the timepiece itself.

The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronosprint x Porsche celebrates the 60th anniversary of two icons: the TAG Heuer Carrera and the Porsche 911. The timepiece merges history, precision and innovation. In 1963, the very first Porsche 911 took just 9.1 seconds to go from 0 to 100km/h. And so, as a tribute to that remarkable feat, the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronosprint x Porsche emulates the acceleration speed of the Porsche 911. As part of our Time Out series, The Edge asked French artist Gennaro Lewis Grassi to capture the universe of this watch in his own unique style.

The artist and his muse

Lewis uses his influences — outsider art, design, urban and urban culture — to create thought-provoking works of art that explore the contradictions of modern society. Lewis’ muse for this project, the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronosprint x Porsche, is the perfect match for his evocative and spontaneous style.

0 to 100km/h in 9.1 seconds, captured on canvas

Much like the watch itself, the artist showcases some iconic features of the Porsche 911 on his canvas. Using an urban racing universe as his backdrop, Lewis fills the space with some of the delightful little details you’ll find on the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronosprint x Porsche. Spot the dials, inspired by car dashboards from the seventies. They form visual representations of speed and acceleration. Notice the red line that symbolizes the 0-100 km/h achievement, in just 9.1 seconds. There are also checkered flags, stopwatches, metallic wheels, the TAG Heuer shield, traffic signals and of course, the Porsche 911. Scroll through the images to catch all of the artist’s references.

‘I drew inspiration from both the TAG Heuer and Porsche universes. Like a watch, I envisioned a world rich in details, where everything interlocks and works together. All of this creates a racing ambiance – only the canvas being animated is missing to see this entire scene come to life.’ Gennaro Lewis Grassi

Zoom out and you’ll discover a wonderful synergy: the car that inspired the watch that inspired the artwork. Every element, evenly balanced.
