1963: The birth of an icon

In 1963, Jack Heuer introduced the Heuer Carrera to the world, including the early elements of the legendary Glassbox design, which would become one of the collection’s hallmarks in the years to come. At its conception, the objective was for the watch to be easily readable under the conditions of a car race and robust enough to withstand its demands. Jack Heuer’s unique vision resulted in a pure design, stripped of all non-essential elements. A legend was born.

2015 - 2022: The modern revival

The glassbox returned in 2015. This model paid homage to the 1960s Heuer Carrera with a domed sapphire crystal that replicated the classic plexiglass aesthetic, blending heritage with modern technology. Building upon the success of the 2015 launch, TAG Heuer introduced several variations in subsequent  years that showcased the versatility of the glassbox design. These models introduced subtle enhancements in materials and finishes. The dials became canvases for creative expression, featuring intricate patterns and sophisticated color schemes.

2023 - Present: The new era

Since then, TAG Heuer has continued to innovate, celebrating six decades of the TAG Heuer Carrera with a series of glassbox design models epitomizing precision and elegance.

The design language has evolved, forever building a link between past and future, to feature sharper lines and more defined silhouettes, enhancing the watch’s visual impact and wearability. The domed sapphire crystal, in addition to the new curved flange were designed to eliminate the parallax effect, both remained a central element, of this new design offering an unimpeded view of the meticulously crafted dials beneath, and highlighting the herald, one of the key elements of the TAG Heuer Carrera.

This is particularly evident in the striking TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph, in an iconic “Panda” configuration. “SN”, as Jack Heuer used to call the “silver and noir” combination, highly contrasted, the panda is by essence designed for legibility. It embodies in a pure way the idea of functional design so dear to Jack Heuer. Display through the new Glassbox concept and adorned with vibrant red touches, the new “Panda” expression becomes the epitome of readability and perfectly signs the racing DNA of Carrera. Each iteration maintained the timeless elegance of this TAG Heuer Carrera while pushing the boundaries of contemporary watchmaking.
