Watches THE ULTIMATE COLLECTOR’S GUIDE: TAG HEUER MONACO GULF SERIES

Released in 2005 as a limited edition of 4000 pieces, the watch pays tribute to the eternal “King of Cool”, Steve McQueen – the original Monaco’s quintessential ambassador. With its avant-garde square design and an irreverent white dial (a rarity at the time), it evokes the stylistic innovations of the mid-20th century.

The watch’s original colour scheme is reminiscent of Steve McQueen’s legendary driving suit in the 1971 movie Le Mans.  This first edition inspired all the Gulf-branded Monacos of the series, each with a unique take on the Gulf theme. Gulf’s longstanding partnerships with motoracing giants makes them the perfect collaborator for our special edition TAG Heuer Monaco Gulf designs. 

The 2009 version sports a luxurious metallic grey dial in the new Monaco Calibre 12 case, a slight departure from the Black Vintage Monaco.

Eight years went by before the new Gulf Monaco – the 2018 Monaco Gulf Calibre 11 – finally emerged. Sporting a distinctive crown on the left-hand side, it combines a metallic blue dial with Gulf’s signature orange and blue stripes. The hands offer an intriguing mix of orange hour markers and red hands, while the striking blue perforated strap carries a signature orange stitching.

At the 2018 Geneva International Motor Show, TAG Heuer and Gulf jointly announced the development of new editions. It’s exciting news for racing fans and watch enthusiasts.
