Watches Racing’s Coolest Icon: The TAG Heuer Monaco x Gulf Returns
1 min
BACK TO 1971
In a film that redefined motorsport on screen, McQueen stepped into the role of Michael Delaney wearing three things: a Gulf-striped racing suit, a Porsche 917K, and a TAG Heuer Monaco on his wrist. His choice wasn’t random; it was personal. Guided by racing legend Jo Siffert, McQueen selected the Heuer Monaco himself. With its square case, left-side crown, and blue dial, the watch became an enduring symbol of speed, rebellion, and cinematic cool.
REVIVING THE COLORS OF A LEGEND
This new edition brings that spirit roaring back. The bright silver dial is punctuated by blue and orange Gulf stripes, a nod to the race car and suit that made the TAG Heuer Monaco famous. The Gulf logo rests just beneath the hands, while the vintage Heuer insignia reinforces its roots in watchmaking and motorsport history. The iconic left-side crown — a hallmark of the Calibre 11 — underscores its historic soul.
BUILT FOR COLLECTORS, MADE FOR THE MOMENT
The 39mm case, in sandblasted titanium, offers a raw, workshop-inspired finish that feels both refined and rugged. The white textile strap is crafted from Nomex® — the same flame-resistant material worn on the set of Le Mans, sourced from the original supplier, Hinchman. An additional blue perforated calfskin strap provides a versatile alternative. Both are housed in a lacquered box inspired by Gulf’s racing livery.
Launched in the year TAG Heuer officially lends its name to the Grand Prix de Monaco, this timepiece proudly reflects the past as it races confidently into the present. More than a tribute, it’s a time machine, ticking straight back to the moment the TAG Heuer Monaco became legend.
